School Location

It currently serves the southwest communities of Signal Hill and Richmond Hill and commencing in September 2008 the neighbourhood of Springbank Hill will be included in the school's boundary.

About the School

Battalion Park school is a two building campus serving K to 6 students. In the beginning Battalion Park was one of the first four "mini" schools built by the Calgary Board of Education to provide neighbourhood schools for Calgary's growing population. Fifteen relocatable classrooms were joined together to create one school community serving K to 3 students. Students in grades 4 to 6 were bussed to a nearby public school. The mini school opened for instruction on August 31, 2000. On September 4, 2007 the new Battalion Park core school opened. For the first time in the school's seven year history, student in grades K to 6 were able to attend their neighbourhood school. On opening day Battalion Park became a two building campus with 4 half day kindergarten classes and 4 grade one classes residing in the mini school and 14 classes of grades 2 to 6 students residing in the new core school. Battalion Park School became "Two Schools with One Heart". Programming potential was significantly enhanced with the opening of the new school. A two station gym provides rich resources for students and teachers. Two designated music classrooms in the mini school facilitate music instruction by 2 part time music teachers. A new outside compound area, playing fields and a soon to be built creative playground (May 2008) facilitates daily active living. A large "gathering space" housing the grades 2 to 6 noon supervision program in the core school and a separate space in the mini school devoted to the grade one noon supervision program creates a compatible lunch time for our students. An optional hot lunch program is available to every student on Monday at a nominal cost. Three school buses transport bus eligible riders each day. Both support staff and student leaders assist with bussing duties at the beginning and end of each day. Twenty-eight grade five and six students participate in an AMA School Safety Patrol to facilitate safe crossings on Sienna Park Drive. A before and after school childcare program operated by Kidzinc in the min school supports 28 families. Students registered in the program can be dropped off as early as 7:00a.m. and picked up as late as 6:00p.m. This program is highly valued as childcare programs in the Signal Hill / Richmond Hill community are limited.
