Grant MacEwan is located in the northeast community of Falconridge. The majority of our students live in the community. We also have some students from Martindale who cannot be accommodated at their community school, Crossing Park. We strive to create a learning environment where students are ready to learn and where there is an emphasis on respect, responsibility and cooperation. Our students present a wide spectrum of talents, heritage, values, interests, gifts and needs. There are 620 students in Kindergarten to grade 6; two thirds of our students are in division one. Sixty percent of our students have English as their second language. We love the diversity of our school community and the richness it brings to teaching and learning.
About the School
Grant MacEwan School was built in 1988 and is situated on 7.90 acres. The school has 12 relocatables attached to a bright, sunny core school. The core school has 3 kindergarten classrooms, 23 regular classrooms, a music room (stage), a junior high-sized double gym, and a large Learning Resource Centre. There are many multimedia workstations organized into pods within the classrooms and in the Learning Resource Centre. Our large playfield has two creative playgrounds and fitness stations that surround the perimeter. There is a fenced-in courtyard accessible to kindergarten classrooms. We are very proud of our painted mural featuring our school's namesake, Dr. Grant MacEwan. This colorful mural is located in the school's front hall next to the gym honoring Dr. Grant MacEwan's legacy. A strong sense of community spirit and a focus on caring for one another and the environment help make our school an amazing place to learn.
