About the School

Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies is an alternative program offered by the Calgary Board of Education. It is open to all grades 7 through 12 students that want to learn in an unique environment.

At Juno Beach, students will develop a deeper sense of their country through learning about Canada and learn about their role and their responsibilities as citizens of this country. The principles of the Canadian Cadet Movement - Citizenship, Leadership, and Personal Well-being - are viewed as significant contributors to the philosophy and practice of Juno Beach Academy.

First and foremost, Juno Beach Academy (JBA) has a written Code of Honour. This code of conduct is designed to promote the qualities of honour, integrity, the respect of ones' self and of others. We also honour student voice, diversity, and democratic principles as we strive to create a harassment free environment.

Juno Beach Academy is a uniform school. Students are expected to wear their uniforms correctly and with pride. Drill is integrated into the Physical Education program for junior high school students and it is offered as a complementary credit option at the senior high school level.

JBA teaches the Alberta Program of Studies. In addition, we integrate uniquely Canadian concepts into all subjects of the complementary curriculum: Canadian history, Music, Outdoor Pursuits, French, Film Studies, Service, Leadership, Art and Drama. Above all, we assist young people in meeting the challenge of exploring and preparation for entry into many different Human Services Career Pathways. Many of our students have gone on to staudy at universities across Canada, Royal Military College, SAIT, and Mount Royal college.

JBA Students are often organized into learning teams and our classroom flights. This organizational structure of teacher Advisory Groups and Homerooms are designed for teamwork, staff and student mentoring, community service, off-site educational trips, outdoor pursuits and classroom studies.
