School Location

The school is located in the northeast community of Mayland Heights - a community bordered to the north by 16th Avenue, to west by Deerfoot Trail, to the east by Barlow trail and to the south by Memorial Drive. The school is situated on the same campus at Sir John Franklin School - the Calgary Board of Education's home of Arts Centred Learning for junior high school students. The campus is located east of 19th Street N. W. bordered by Maunsell Drive to the south, McKinnon Drive to the East, residential homes to the west, and 8th Avenue to the north.

About the School

The school was built in 1967 and is situated on 11.79 acres. The school has 17 classrooms, a library, a computer lab, a resource room, an art room, a music room, a mathematics laboratory, a gymnasium, and a creative playground.

Mayland Heights School is a dual-track school which offers both English and French Immersion programs for children in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Most students in the Regular (English) Program live in the Mayland Heights community with some attending from our bussed communities in order to access French-as-a-Second-Language instruction in grades 4 - 6 (150 min./week); students attending the French Immersion Program come from the communities of Abbeydale, Albert Park/Radisson Heights, Applewood, Coral Springs, Dover, Erin woods, Forest Heights, Forest Lawn, Inglewood, Marlborough, Marlborough Park, Mayland Heights, Monterey Park, Penbrooke Meadows, Ramsay, Red Carpet/Mountview Mobile Park, Southview and Vista Heights.

After completing Grade 6 at Mayland Heights, students in the Regular Program move on to Sir John Franklin School (which is the designated Arts Centred Learning, Junior High School Program for students in the north of Calgary); students attending the French Immersion program move on to Bob Edwards School. From Sir John Franklin, students move on to Crescent Heights Senior High School; from Bob Edwards, French Immersion students move on to Lester B. Pearson Senior High Schools.
