School Location

Senator Patrick Burns School is located in the northwest with close proximity to the University of Calgary. We serve the communities of Citadel, Charleswood, Ranchlands and the Hamptons. Elementary feeder schools include Captain John Palliser, Capital Hill, and Collingwood. We are pleased to provide the Spanish bi-lingual program for all students in North Calgary in grades 5 and 6 and all students in Calgary for grades 7and 8. Next year the program will advance to Grade 9. We also are pleased to house the National Sports Hockey Academy for students in grades 7, 8 and 9. Most of our students graduate from Senator Patrick Burns School to William Aberhart High School, although the National Sports Hockey Academy students may choose to continue their hockey program at Central Memorial High School. A High School for the Spanish program has yet to be determined.

About the School

The school was built in 1961 and is situated on 12.53 acres with very large playing fields. We are in the planning process of developing a social activity center which will include a playground for the students. The school has 33 classrooms: a well equipped library; band room; art, drama and Construction Technology rooms; fashion and foods labs; updated, modern science laboratories; CTS teaching centres; computer labs with infused technology in many classrooms; four physical education locations with a full sized gymnasium, a dance/combatives area, a fitness area with weights and a climbing wall; and a superb cafeteria with a large variety of hot and cold food choices. We are also home to the National Hockey Academy. As an alternative program choice, families may include hockey as part of their education. Students take the courses that all of our students receive and learn more about hockey through the Mental Excellence of Sport off-ice, and on-ice experiences. More information is available at the school and from the National Hockey Academy at 777-3646. We are excited to be home to the Spanish bi-lingual program in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. Students enrolled in this program have been taking Spanish as a bi-lingual program since grade 1. New students are only accepted with a high degree of fluency in Spanish as determined by the Spanish staff.
