School Location

Tuscany School is located in the northwest community of Tuscany serving all children attending Kindergarten through grade four. Students from Tuscany attend Marion Carson School for grades five and six, F.E. Osborne Junior High School for grades seven through nine and Bowness High School for grades ten through twelve. The announcement from the Provincial Government approving the funding and construction of a Tuscany Middle School in the near future was made on January 30, 2008.

About the School

Our school opened in September 2006 with 410 children in attendance and continues to grow as our community grows. Tuscany School experienced an increase of students in September 2007 to 550 students in total and continues to grow daily. Six additional classrooms were added for September 2008 bringing our student enrolment to 650 and our full capacity to 700.

Our students enjoy a wonderful, new school building with a variety of learning spaces from open area, teamed classrooms, break-out rooms for small group instruction, a dynamic library as the hub of learning, and a double gym, to individual self-contained classrooms in our relocatable areas.

In order to facilitate differentiated learning and support individual student needs, instruction is organized through a multi-aged approach to learning in grades one through four. Currently we have eight morning and nine afternoon kindergarten classes, fourteen grade one/two classrooms and eight grade three/four classrooms. We have been able to maintain one classroom dedicated to our music program again this year and this will be reviewed each year as our student numbers continue to grow. In 2008-2009 we adopted the Circle of Courage Philosophy to support the positive development of ‘community’ and school culture. In addition we reorganized the school into four ‘Pod’ groupings, each one adapting one element of the Circle of Courage; Belonging, Independence, Mastery and Generosity to enhance this sense of community and to facilitate cross grade academic and social activities and opportunities.

Our school priorities currently are to improve and enhance student learning and achievement in reading, writing and mathematics and to promote and foster strong character development and positive behavior. In order to achieve these ends our program focuses on the integration of content, technology and fine arts.
