About the School

University School is a CARING, INNOVATIVE, ACADEMIC, DIVERSE community of learners with students from 31 countries. UES has an outstanding and well qualified staff. Our parent community supports us with a wide range of expertise and energy. We embrace the notion that the evolution of our community and culture is best approached through an habitual process of inquiry that challenges us to question “where we go from where we are”. We are not considered an alternative program and we seek to continually welcome a rich diversity that is representative of a Global Community – the kind of world we believe our children will realistically face as adults. As such, we continually strive to understand and support each individual child in our care. The school was built in 1967 and is situated on 8.5 acres. The school has 20 classrooms, a gymnasium, science room, music room, and drama room. One-way glass galleries allow observation of teaching and learning practices, by Education students, professors and other professionals. The school is partnered with the University of Calgary to enable research, innovation, and teacher training. At University School, students learn in a multi-age learning environment which spans 2 grade levels. Teams of teachers work in differentiated groupings with the children. A focus on inquiry-based learning invites engagement with imagination and supports children in becoming contributors to their world.
