W.H. Cushing Workplace School
School Location
W.H. Cushing Workplace School is located in the core of downtown Calgary at 130-7 Avenue S.W. The school is on the main floor of TELUS' Len Werry Building, and the classrooms overlook the LRT tracks. Kitty-corner to the Bay and across the street from Central United Church, downtown is at our doorstep.
In 1998, additional space was acquired to allow the school to accommodate grade 3. The kindergarten program is now housed down the block from the main site, at 114D, 7 Avenue S.W.
About the School
The Workplace School concept originated through a partnership between AGT (now TELUS) and the Calgary Board of Education. The first of its kind in Canada, the school has been established as a public school in the downtown core. The school links the children's learning environment with the parent's work environment and downtown resources, thus creating a unique learning setting.
We are now in our fourteenth year, and at capacity, with three grade classes and two kindergarten classes.
Parents who work downtown find that the school's location, and partnership with on-site child care allows them to be more closely involved with their child's learning on a daily basis.
